The First Burn:

Lighting your candle for the first time is an exciting experience! But it is also one of the most important steps to provide you with a longer-lasting, cleaner burning candle! During the first burn, it is crucial to allow the wax to melt to the edges of the container. This helps prevent tunneling and ensures an even burn throughout the life of the candle. The first burn should last roughly 2-3 hours.

Before Each Burn:

This is arguably the most important step of caring for your candle, aside from a proper first burn. To increase the longevity of your candle and provide a cleaner burn, be sure to trim your wooden wick! Trimming your wooden wick before each use will help prevent the wick from mushrooming, which can cause the flame to flicker and produce soot. To do this, you can simply use a sharp pair of scissors to cut in a straight, horizontal line across the wooden wick about 1/8 inch above the wax. Alternatively, you can use a wick trimmer to make trimming your wooden wick a breeze.

Snuffing Out Your Candle:

When it’s time to extinguish your candle, avoid blowing it out. Blowing out your candle can cause the wick to smolder, which creates soot. Instead, use a candle snuffer to gently extinguish the flame. Lower the bell-shaped portion of the candle snuffer over the flame until it is out, taking care not to dunk it into the wax. This helps prevent unnecessary smoke, ensuring a cleaner burning candle. Do not use the lid to extinguish the flame or close the lid while the candle is lit. Smoke and pressure may build up inside the container and weaken the scent or damage the container.

Never Leave Your Candle Unattended:

It might seem obvious, but never leave a burning candle unattended. Always make sure to extinguish the flame before leaving the room. Additionally, it is important to keep candles away from flammable materials such as curtains or paper and place them on a heat-resistant surface. Avoid exposing the candle to drafts, and make sure to keep it out of reach from children and pets.

Extra Tips:

We know that proper candle care is important for the longevity of your candle and the air quality in your home. So here are some extra candle care tips to help keep your candles burning bright.

-Try to avoid burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.
-Extinguish the flame once the wax has melted to within an inch of the container's edge.

Happy Candle, Happy Home:
